How I bought a Porsche 911 for FREE!!

I’ve always loved Porsches. One of my first hot wheels car was a red 1984 Porsche 944. Porsche posters adorned my walls as a child, and eventually my garage walls as an adult. Owning a Porsche, and that too, a 911 was (I can say “was” and not “is” now) a lifelong dream of mine, and I finally made it come true on April 15th 2019.

I bought my 2014 911 with 22K miles on it for $57K. OK, so maybe the title of the story is a little “click-baity”, but I sold it for $58K after I owned it for over a year and a half and driving it 8000 miles. So, technically, someone paid me to own my 911. Of course, if I include the sales tax, cost of gas, insurance, maintenance and other costs of ownership, I spent a little over $3000 to own the car, but even at this cost, it was as cheap as my Prius to own. (In the end, I’ll provide a true cost of ownership, to give you a better idea of exactly how much I spent.)

  1. New or Used:

All cars are a depreciating asset. In most cases used cars depreciate far slower than new cars, so its a no-brainer that you stand to lose less money with used cars. A used car then naturally will be cheaper than the same car new. However, used cars have history, sometimes BAD history, so…
